Klobuchar Statement on Governor Dayton’s Disaster Declaration Request for Minnesota Communities Affected by Floods
June 30, 2012
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar made the following statement regarding Governor Mark Dayton’s request to President Obama for a disaster declaration for Minnesota communities affected by the recent severe flooding and storms that has caused widespread damage to public infrastructure and local homes and businesses.
“Last week I saw firsthand the devastation caused by the severe flooding in northeast Minnesota communities, and it is clear that swift support will be needed as these communities begin the recovery process. Governor Dayton’s disaster declaration request is an important first step towards securing critical federal aid, and I will continue to work with the Governor and federal, state, and local officials to ensure that this request is approved as quickly as possible.”
Last week Klobuchar was in Duluth as well as Proctor, Carlton and Moose Lake to assess the flood damage and discuss recovery efforts with state and local officials, and her office has been in close contact with the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) about securing federal assistance for affected communities.
