Today’s action comes after Klobuchar and a bipartisan group of senators sent a letter urging the FAA to update its rules

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar said that today’s the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) decision to permit the use of electronics during takeoff and landing increases convenience for travelers while continuing to ensure safety. Today’s action comes after Klobuchar and a bipartisan group of nine other senators sent a letter to FAA Chairman Michael Huerta urging the agency to update its rules on electronic devices.

“From laptops, to tablets, to smartphones, countless travelers depend on their electronic devices to use travel time productively and stay in touch,” Klobuchar said. “Today’s decision by the FAA will make traveling more convenient while continuing to ensure air travel safety.”

The decision by the FAA will allow airlines to let passengers use person electronic devices from gate to gate. Devices must still be used in airplane mode with cellular communication disabled, and cell phones may not be used for voice communications.
