MINNEAPOLIS—Thousands of people flocked to Fort Snelling Cemetery to remember men and women who lost their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day events at Fort Snelling included re-enactments and large military demonstrations. But it also was a day for many to pay their respects.

The event also included speakers. U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar told those gathered that it's important to honor soldiers by keeping promises made to them. She says that means taking care of service members when they need support.

Klobuchar has introduced legislation to help veterans with health care issues. Her bills included one that addresses the backlog of disability claims and one that addresses the need to investigate cases where service members may have been improperly discharged for personality disorders.
