WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the following statement today in support of the bipartisan bill that passed the Senate to address the sustainable growth rate—the formula we use to pay doctors who treat Medicare patients—and fund the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and community health centers:

“Permanently repealing this outdated policy is a major milestone for the millions of seniors in Minnesota and across the country who rely on Medicare for their health care needs. I have consistently pushed for a long-term solution to this problem, and the bipartisan agreement we passed means that seniors’ access to care won’t be threatened by drastic cuts in payments to doctors. This legislation will provide needed stability for health care providers and continue to move Medicare toward a system that rewards value and quality—not just volume. It also supports eight million of our nation’s low-income children by extending the Children’s Health Insurance Program for two years and provides valuable funding for community health centers, which offer primary care services to America’s most vulnerable patients.”
