Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s staff, including Glenwood native Ben Hill, will host a one-hour meeting for veterans and their families at the Pope County Courthouse Community Room beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17.

Veterans from across the area are invited to attend to learn more about programs designed to assist them and their families.  Sen. Klobuchar will offer comments via video recording, highlighting the many offices and programs available to those who have served our country in recent times or in any of our past conflicts.

Hill, the son of Claire and Steve Hill of Glenwood, was recently named Sen. Klobuchar’s state director and will be attending the upcoming veterans information event in his official capacity along with other members of Klobuchar’s staff.

The event is part of a statewide Veterans Service Staff Tour to highlight resources currently available to help veterans secure the benefits they have earned and the services they deserve. The forum will also feature educational presentations about veterans benefits and application processes from local veterans agencies. Recently, Sen. Klobuchar cosponsored a bill to help veterans navigate the disability appeals process with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“The Veterans Service Tour represents a unique opportunity for members of my staff to connect with veterans in communities across the state,” said Klobuchar. “From locating service records to helping navigate the VA health care system, my office knows that serving Minnesota veterans and their families is a sacred duty. My staff will be providing information, troubleshooting any problems, and making sure that the VA system works for our veterans.”

On a local level, Pope County Veterans Service Officer Hugh Reimers will explain how his office can assist those who have needs arising from their service to the country.

Other presenters include the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), and the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV).  Each agency will offer a summary of services they provide in order to assist our servicemen and servicewomen who are just returning home, as well as veterans of past conflicts and wars.

There is no charge for the event, and Sen. Klobuchar asks that people who may be aware of a veteran in need to bring them to this meeting or inform them of this opportunity.

The courthouse community room is located on the first floor near the east entrance, across the hall from the Sheriff’s Dispatch Center.
