WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today announced that she was named ranking member of the Senate Rules Committee, a position previously held by now Democratic leader Senator Chuck Schumer of New York. The committee is responsible for the rules and manages the operations of the Senate. Among other issues, it handles matters related to federal elections and good governance. It is one of the oldest committees of the U.S. Senate.
“Good governance requires fairness, transparency, and efficiency. That will be my focus as ranking member of the Senate Rules Committee,” said Klobuchar. “The American people need to know that Congress is functioning and working for them.”
Klobuchar will also continue her role as chair of the Senate Democratic Steering Committee. The committee brings together senators, community leaders, policy experts, and representatives from businesses and organizations to help develop policies to strengthen the economy and support the American people.
“I look forward to bringing together lawmakers and leaders from across the country to shape policies that will strengthen our economy and move our country forward," said Klobuchar.
Klobuchar was first named chair of the Steering Committee in 2014. The committee is one of the Democratic leadership committees in the Senate.
