WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today released the following statement regarding the proposed bipartisan Congressional investigation into Russia’s interference with the 2016 election. She had earlier called for an investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 election. She was also one of 27 Democratic and Republican Senators who sent a letter to President-Elect Trump calling for him to stand with the people of Ukraine against Russian aggression.

“Foreign interference in our elections is a threat to our democracy and our security and cannot be tolerated. Russia’s role in the 2016 election warrants a full and thorough Congressional investigation, and I’m encouraged that Republican leaders, including Majority Leader McConnell and Senators McCain and Graham, have joined with Democratic leaders in calling for bipartisan investigations. I look forward to a comprehensive investigation – free from partisanship and politics – in order to uncover all the facts and make sure our future elections are safeguarded from overseas interference.”

Klobuchar will be the ranking member of the Senate Rules Committee during the 115th Congress. Among other issues, the committee handles matters related to federal elections. She is also a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
