Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar is urging the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to take more action in response to recent Legionnaires’ Disease outbreaks in the state and across the nation.

So far this year, more than 60 people have become sick from the severe form of pneumonia caused by a bacterium known as legionella. Most recently, an outbreak in Hopkins has sickened at least 20 people and lead to one death.

Klobuchar's letter to CDC Director Tom Frieden asks for defining a clear path forward to combat outbreaks and getting to the bottom of the cause of the outbreaks. The CDC reports more than 5,000 cases are reported in the U.S. annually.

State and local health officials are still working to identify the source or sources of the local outbreak.
