The City of Faribault has named its local airport field in honor of a remarkable World War II veteran and pilot.
The Faribault Municipal Airport field officially became the Liz Wall Strohfus Field on Saturday.
Strohfus was a member of Women's AirForce Service Pilots (WASP) during World War II. After a time spent training fighter pilots, she spent her life advocating for women, and specifically female veterans.
In her 90s, Strohfus worked with Sen. Amy Klobuchar to pass a law that allows WASP members to be buried at Arlington Cemetery. She has received two Congressional medals, and traveled to 37 states telling her story.
The dedication ceremony Saturday included a visit from Klobuchar, and a fly-in of a restored replica of the exact BT-13 that Strohfus flew.
