WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar joined the Minnesota Lynx at Payne Elementary School today to celebrate their 2017 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Championship with a day of community service. The team partnered with Samaritan’s Feet Shoes of Hope to give away shoes and socks to children from low-income families and students at the school.

“The Minnesota Lynx had another phenomenal season last year, taking home their fourth WNBA Championship in seven years. Winning four championships is an amazing accomplishment, but the leadership they demonstrated today goes beyond the basketball court,” Klobuchar said. “By choosing not to celebrate themselves, but to organize an event to help hundreds of elementary students, the Lynx showed us all what it really means to be a champion. They may not have been invited to the White House but I was happy to join them at the school today.
