WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the following statement on the 70th Anniversary of the North American Treaty Organization (NATO):
“NATO is the most successful military alliance in history because we are united by values that continue to serve as the foundation for 70 years of unprecedented peace, security, and economic prosperity. Now, more than ever, we must reaffirm and strengthen our commitment to the alliance. Our adversaries around the world must know that we will stand together with our allies to defend against aggression and attempts to divide us.”
Klobuchar, the ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, which oversees federal elections, has been a stalwart supporter of NATO, especially in light of Russian interference in U.S. and European elections.
Just three years ago to this month, Klobuchar traveled to former Eastern-bloc countries as a member of a bipartisan congressional delegation led by former Senator John McCain (R-AZ) to reinforce support for NATO and to focus on mounting international cybersecurity problems. The senators met with Presidents and Prime Ministers of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Georgia, and Montenegro.
