ELK RIVER, MN – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) visited Elk River to tour the Elk River-Rogers VFW Sports Complex and Twin Lakes Elementary School, a 2021 National Blue Ribbon Award recipient.

“The Elk River-Rogers VFW Sports Complex and Twin Lakes Elementary School are both examples of strong community anchors that bring people together and provide educational and recreational programming to benefit the next generation,” said Klobuchar.

At the Elk River-Rogers VFW Sports Complex, Klobuchar met with VFW Post 5518 Commander David Boily, Sherburne County Veterans Service Officer Michael Tschudi, and Wright County Veterans Service Officer Greg Pickard to tour the Complex’s community center building and open fields for outdoor youth sports. The Complex, which is run and maintained by volunteers, is utilized by more than 1,500 youth annually, enabling kids to participate in programming without field rental costs. VFW Post 5518 also operates charitable gaming at the Sunshine Depot in Elk River.

At Twin Lakes Elementary School, Klobuchar met with school leaders and local officials including Mayor John Dietz, Superintendent Daniel Bittman, Assistant Superintendent William Campbell, Principal Daniel Collins, and third-grade teacher Rachel Johnson. Twin Lakes Elementary School was one of six Minnesota schools to receive the U.S. Department of Education’s National Blue Ribbon Award in 2021. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
