Lawmakers have had the weekend to digest what passing the more than $1 trillion infrastructure bill will mean for the communities they represent.

Minnesota's two U.S. Senators, Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, are celebrating.

"When you combine the opening of the Canadian border, you combine the possibility of more infrastructure, I think all this is really good for northern Minnesota today," Sen. Klobuchar (D) said.

She pointed to millions allotted for broadband and electric vehicle charging stations along with the traditional infrastructure components.

"It's going to be really good for especially the Northland with all the work that needs to be done on the bridges, both the Lift Bridge, the Blatnik Bridge, the possibility of rail up to Duluth," Klobuchar said. "And then you also add in just maintenance of roads."

In a campaign email sent Monday afternoon, Sen. Smith (D) said, "This is a historic moment for our country, but our work isn't finished."

Both also support passing a separate spending package. Klobuchar said she thinks portions of it related to childcare and prescription drug costs are popular with American voters.

"It's always hard to get things done," Klobuchar said. "I will say the immediate social media Twitter world we live in, it's a little hard to negotiate when everything you say ends up out there in three minutes. Imagine trying to do a business deal that way. And it's been hard because people are more polarized. That's true. But there's always a group of us in the middle that want to get stuff done. And I think that's what you saw with this infrastructure bill."
