President Joe Biden signed his $1 trillion infrastructure deal into law Monday, declaring that the new infusion of cash for roads, bridges, ports, and more is going to make life "change for the better" for the American people.
Monday, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar shared how the infrastructure bill will affect southern Minnesota.
The state will see billions of dollars of the bill starting later this year or early next year. This includes four point five billion for highways...Over eight hundred million for public transportation...And at least one hundred million for broadband internet.
"If we wanna be a county that makes stuff, invents things, and exports to the world, we need high-speed internet in every corner of our state," Klobuchar said.
Our state could start seeing some infrastructure projects underway early next year. But using up the federal money could take up to a decade.
"We learned from the pandemic that we can actually get government money out quickly when there's a crisis. It's a ten-year process but it'll start right away," said Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
The bill will also create more jobs, jobs that Klobuchar says we can fill by getting more young people into the trades and into apprenticeships.
