Testimony at Committee on House Administration hearing shows reforms to Capitol Police intelligence sharing and procedures are needed

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the Committee on Rules and Administration, made the following statement regarding testimony from United States Capitol Police Inspector General Michael Bolton at today’s hearing of the Committee on House Administration.

“On January 6th brave law enforcement officers were left to defend not only those of us in the Capitol, but our democracy itself – and they performed heroically under unimaginable circumstances. Today’s testimony reflects much of what we have found in the joint investigation of the Senate Rules and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committees into the January 6th attack. The testimony also reinforced the bipartisan consensus that major reforms are needed to both intelligence sharing and to ensure that the Capitol Police have the equipment, training, and procedures in place that are needed to protect the Capitol Complex.”

A joint report from the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee regarding the January 6th attack on the Capitol is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
