WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the Committee on Rules and Administration with oversight over federal elections and campaign finance law, issued the statement below following the Senate’s procedural vote last night on legislation to enact voting and electoral reforms.

“The right to vote is fundamental to all of our rights, but today we are seeing efforts to roll back voting rights across the country,” said Senator Klobuchar. “We need to respond to these threats to our democracy head on by setting basic national standards to make sure all Americans can cast their ballots in the way that works best for them, regardless of what zip code they live in. Democrats are united and ready to take action on this urgent issue, yet Republicans are not even willing to move forward on reforms with broad public support to put an end to partisan gerrymandering and secret spending in elections. Our democracy is at stake, and passing these reforms must remain our top priority.”
