WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration with oversight of federal elections and campaign finance law, issued the statement below on President Biden’s nomination of Dara Lindenbaum to be a Commissioner on the Federal Election Commission (FEC). President Biden’s appointment of Lindenbaum follows the announcement of Commissioner Stephen T. Walther’s retirement.

“The right to vote is fundamental to all of our rights as Americans, but today we are seeing increased efforts by special interests and foreign adversaries to influence our democracy and an unprecedented rise in secret money. These threats underscore the importance of having qualified, dedicated commissioners at the FEC to ensure accountability in our elections,” said Klobuchar. “As an expert on campaign finance and election laws who regularly represents clients before the FEC and federal and state courts and election boards, Dara Lindenbaum will bring the experience we need to ensure fair and transparent elections across our nation. I look forward to working with her to protect our democracy, and I urge my Senate colleagues to support her swift confirmation.”
