WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) issued the statement below on the 50th anniversary of Title IX.

“50 years ago, Title IX banned gender discrimination in all educational programs that receive federal funding, strengthening our nation as a whole by opening doors to opportunities for women and girls across the country. Today we see female leaders all around us – from science labs and movie sets to the Olympic podium and the Supreme Court. But while progress has been made, this anniversary serves as a reminder that there is still much work to be done. Today and every day, I will keep working to address inequities and build on the remarkable legacy of Title IX."

Alongside Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Klobuchar recently introduced the bipartisan Equal Pay for Team USA Act to ensure equal pay for all Americans who represent our country in global athletic competitions, like the Olympics, regardless of gender. Just yesterday, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation approved the legislation, sending it to the full Senate for consideration.

Klobuchar has also been a leader in the fight to close the gender pay gap and provide more workforce opportunities for women. In May, she and Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) successfully pushed the Biden administration to increase resources to boost women’s participation in registered apprenticeship programs.
