WASHINGTON – During the first three weeks of the new year, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) met with Minnesotans in 23 counties to discuss infrastructure and economic development priorities. 

“Strengthening workforce development, improving access to child care, updating our infrastructure, and making sure our communities have the resources they need is critical,” said Klobuchar. “I can’t think of a better way to start the new year than meeting with Minnesotans about these priorities and more so I can take their ideas to Washington with me.”

In Northwestern Minnesota, Klobuchar went to: 

  • Warroad, Roseau County to discuss workforce development with leadership at Marvin Windows and Doors, one of the country's largest window and door manufacturers;
  • Karlstad, Kittson County to talk about economic development with Mattracks leadership, a local company that manufactures rubber track conversions transforming most 4x4 vehicles into all-terrain vehicles; 
  • East Grand Forks, Polk County where she joined East Grand Forks Mayor Steve Gander and Food Network star and local restaurant owner Molly Yeh to discuss support for small businesses; 
  • Thief River Falls, Pennington County to tour Digi-Key’s new expansion with Thief River Falls Mayor Brian Holmer and Digi-Key President Dave Doherty; 
  • Oslo, Marshall County to talk about flood mitigation with local leaders; 
  • Moorhead, Clay County to discuss federal funding she helped secure for the 11th Street Underpass Project;
  • Klobuchar also met with local leaders and community members in Ada, Norman County; Red Lake Falls, Red Lake County; and Mahnomen, Mahnomen County. 

In Central Minnesota, Klobuchar went to:

  • Glenwood, Pope County to speak with Glenwood Mayor Sherri Kazda and local leaders about economic development and tourism in the area; 
  • Otsego, Wright County to discuss funding she helped secure to enable the design and construction of a drinking water treatment plant for the city; 
  • Elk River, Sherburne County to meet with local leaders and talk about funding for improvements to U.S. Highway 169; 
  • Sartell, Stearns County to tour CentraCare’s Central Minnesota Child Advocacy Center Campus and discuss federal funding for their expansion project; 
  • Klobuchar also met with local leaders and community members in Sauk Rapids, Benton County and Alexandria, Douglas County. 

In the Metro area and in Southern Minnesota, Klobuchar went to: 

  • Oakdale, Washington County to tour Protez Foundation’s clinic, a nonprofit providing prosthetics and rehabilitation to Ukrainian soldiers and civilians injured in Russia’s war on Ukraine; 
  • Shakopee, Scott County to receive an update on the City of Shakopee’s innovation hub project;
  • Columbia Heights, Anoka County to meet with leaders and volunteers at Southern Anoka Community Assistance Food Shelf & Thrift Store and discuss federal funding secured for an expansion; 
  • Richfield, Hennepin County to discuss federal funding secured for the construction of a new nature center at Wood Lake Nature Center; 
  • Lakeville, Dakota County to meet with local officials and community leaders about funding for road improvements, the Veterans Memorial Greenway, and more; 
  • Chaska, Carver County where she discussed federal funding she helped secure to upgrade U.S. Highway 212; 
  • St. Paul, Ramsey County where she talked about funding she helped secure for organizations working to expand access to affordable housing; 
  • Rochester, Olmsted County to welcome the Ambassador of France to the United States Philippe Étienne to Mayo Clinic and to discuss increasing investments and strengthening trade partnerships between Minnesota and France. 

In addition to the 23 counties, Klobuchar was in Duluth and Silver Bay at the end of 2022 to discuss federal funding secured for the Aerial Lift Bridge and support for residents impacted by the Northshore Mining layoffs. Klobuchar will continue meeting with business owners and local leaders across the state throughout the remainder of the year.
