WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the following statement on the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announcement that the United States and India have reached an agreement to lower tariffs on U.S. turkey exports to India. The agreement will lower tariffs on frozen turkey products exports to India from 30 percent to 5 percent. 

“For too long, high tariffs have prevented American turkey farmers from exporting their products to India,” Klobuchar said. “That’s why I pushed for a resolution to create an even playing field and reduce trade barriers for American turkey farmers and producers, and I’m glad to see this agreement has been reached.”

In August, Klobuchar hosted USTR Ambassador Katherine Tai in Minnesota for meetings with agricultural leaders, farmers, producers, exporters, and business leaders. 

This past June, Klobuchar and Senators Mark Warner (D-VA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Mike Braun (R-IN), Tina Smith (D-MN) and John Thune (R-SD) urged USTR Ambassador Tai for increased market access between the U.S. and India for turkey and poultry producers.
