A measure to add the latest group of synthetic drugs to the banned substances list passes in the Senate.
Synthetic drugs such as Spice and K-2 and certain bath salts have been a focus of drug enforcement as of late.
And the newest set, which contains small chemical differences from the previous versions, will now be illegal.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar says, "The federal government has to make clear that they are illegal. That's what's going on today. People literally buy these drugs that have numbers like 2CE - they don't really quite know what they are, they get them, and they turn out to be deadly."
The amendment was included in the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act, which passed by a 96-1 vote earlier today.
