The Hill

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) pushed FBI Director Kash Patel to ask President Trump to rethink his comments blaming the “radical left” as a primary culprit behind political violence.

Klobuchar rattled off a number of recent events, including the killing of Minnesota Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman (D) and her husband, mentioning that the shooter had the addresses of other Democrats as well as a Planned Parenthood clinic.

She also pointed to a recent study from the Libertarian Cato Institution that found right-leaning terrorists were responsible for significantly more deaths than left-leaning terrorists who carried out political violence.

“So it is not just ‘the radicals on the left,’” Klobuchar said, nodding to recent comments from Trump saying the left was the problem.

“ I actually don’t want to go tit-for-tat on this, but what I am asking for is that this rhetoric of blaming one side or the other just possibly, if you could convey that to the president, and that we actually work on things that are solutions,” Klobuchar asked.

“Absolutely,” Patel responded.
