U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar has a plan to fight "ticket bot" scammers.
The plan comes after tickets for the Prince tribute concert sold out instantly, but most of those tickets did not end up in the hands of fans.
Klobuchar wants to ban ticket bots and other online measures that purposely take tickets away from fans so they can be sold on the secondary market instead. The legislation would prohibit the sale of any ticket that is knowingly obtained by such methods. Anyone who violates the prohibitions would be subject to civil penalties.
"Those scammers are like thieves in the temple, or maybe as I noted yesterday, instead of making doves cry their making fans cry," Klobuchar said during a news conference in Minneapolis.
The Better Online Ticket Sales Act of 2016 has already passed a Senate committee.
