After prodding from members of Congress, residents who had to be evacuated from their homes in Superior, Wisconsin earlier this year following an explosion at an oil refinery will be briefed on the ongoing federal investigation.

In a letter sent Sunday, the Chemical Safety Board agreed to schedule a second meeting with government officials, refinery workers and members of the community later this fall.

A date has not been scheduled.

The meeting was requested last week by four Democratic members of Congress from Minnesota - Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith and Representatives Rick Nolan and Betty McCollum, as well as Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin from Wisconsin.

They expressed concerns specifically with a toxic chemical called hydrogen fluoride that was stored at the refinery in Superior.

A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS investigation found the Environmental Protection Agency had never inspected that refinery prior to the explosion.

The findings concerned residents, lawmakers and chemical experts who said more oversight is needed.
