(Washington, DC) -- Federal lawmakers will consider a bill to let Americans get their prescription drugs cheaper from Canada.

Minnesota Senate Democrat Amy Klobuchar and Senate Republican John McCain from Arizona have introduced the Safe and Affordable Drugs From Canada Act. The goal of the bill is to create more competition in the pharmaceutical market, by allowing Americans to import prescription drugs. Klobuchar says "Canadian families right across our northern border pay on average half as much for their prescription drugs, but laws currently on the book prevent American families from buying these cheaper alternatives."
