MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) - Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar is in Moorhead on Thursday, addressing what she calls an opioid and heroin crisis in the area.

Sen. Klobuchar will host a roundtable discussion with law enforcement, community leaders and families impacted by the drug problem. In the last several weeks, eight people have died of heroin abuse in northern Minnesota alone. Other overdoses have also been reported in the Fargo area.

Part of Thursday's discussion includes the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), which recently passed the U.S. Senate. The bill would encourage states and local communities to pursue a full array of proven strategies in the fight against addiction, according to Klobuchar.
