Every day Minnesotans seek assistance from U.S. government agencies for a variety of reasons - whether it's to get an answer about Social Security, access to veterans benefits, or help with adopting a child. But, too often, bureaucratic red tape gets in the way.
One of my most important duties as a U.S. Senator is to help Minnesotans cut through this red tape to get action or answers - without needless delays or confusion. That's why I have experienced staff, both in Minnesota and Washington, who are available to help you navigate through the bureaucratic maze of the U.S. government. You can contact my office at 612-727-5220 or online at www.klobuchar.senate.gov/public/contact-amy
Below are just a few examples of how we help Minnesotans:
Seniors
When seniors enrolled in Medicare discovered that their applications were not processed properly, my office stepped in to make sure they received the medical coverage to which they were entitled.
Minnesota seniors who've worked their whole lives deserve a decent retirement with quality health care. If you have an issue with Social Security or a problem with Medicare benefits, we're here to help you. You can also get more info on:
- Social Security at www.ssa.gov or 1-800-772-1213
- Medicare at www.medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE
Veterans
When a Minnesota soldier who lost his leg while serving in Iraq returned home and found out he couldn't receive his benefits because of misfiled paperwork, we cut through the layers of bureaucracy to make sure he received the full support he deserved.
I've always believed that when we ask our young men and women to fight and die for our nation, we make a promise to take care of them when they return home. If you have a claim pending with the Department of Veterans Affairs or need assistance getting military records, we're here to help you. For general information about veteran's issues, you can also contact the VA at: www.va.gov or 1-800-827-1000.
Families
When dozens of Minnesota families anxiously sought information on their adoptive children in Haiti after a devastating earthquake, we worked with officials on the ground to make sure these children were safe and able to join their new families in Minnesota.
The well-being of our state and nation depends on the strength of our families. In these challenging times, parents need all the tools they can use to protect their children and do what's best for them. If you're having a problem, like dealing with your home mortgage, getting a college loan, trying to get a passport in a hurry, or trying to adopt a child from overseas, we're here to help you. You can also find general assistance for:
- Adoption at: www.travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/Intercountry-Adoption
- Passports at: www.travel.state.gov or 1-877-487-2778
- Home Mortgages at: www.hud.gov or 1-800-FED-INFO
- Student Loans at: 1-800-4 FED AID
Business & Farms
When Minnesota small businesses learned that loans they needed were being held up by bureaucratic delays at the U.S. Small Business Administration, we helped expedite the loan processing so these businesses could get the capital they needed to create jobs and invest in future growth.
Small businesses are America's engines of job creation. Our economy won't grow unless our businesses are able to grow, too. If you're a Minnesota small business or farmer having a problem with a federal agency or interested in expanding through exports, we're here to help you. You can also find more information and resources for small businesses at www.sba.gov
