WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the statement below following the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s proposed rule that would roll back fair housing regulations for local governments and stop collecting local and regional data on patterns of integration and segregation.

“Fair housing laws increase access to affordable housing and maintain living standards in compliance with our country’s landmark civil rights laws. By issuing this proposal, the Department of Housing and Urban Development is simply giving up on any attempt to reverse widespread segregation and long standing discrimination. This misguided proposal will entrench neighborhoods of concentrated poverty and disproportionately impact racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups. Secretary Carson should not move forward with this plan.”
