WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith announced that loans are available to Northwest Minnesotans who are facing damage and loss after being hit hard by excessive rain and flooding from June 7 through August 1. The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans are available to Minnesota farmers, producers, small businesses and non-profits in Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Marshall and Roseau counties.

“Small businesses across the country are facing incredible challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic,” Klobuchar said. “Some of our small businesses in Beltrami, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Marshall and Roseau counties have also been hit hard by the excessive rain and flooding this summer. These emergency loans to affected businesses will provide much-needed relief and help support the local economy in northern Minnesota.”

We need to help Minnesota farmers in Northwestern Minnesota who are facing tough losses after rain and flooding damaged their sugarbeet, soybean and wheat crops,” Smith said. “Last summer’s inclement weather also hurt oat, hay and corn crops that ranchers count on for cattle feed, put a halt on local construction projects, and damaged some roads and buildings. I encourage Minnesotans who are facing losses or damage to take advantage of this opportunity. As always, feel free to reach out to my office with any questions.
