WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) announced that the House of Representatives passed legislation that included $1,000,000 in funding for a project to increase wastewater capacity in Tower and Breitung. This project would help expand wastewater infrastructure for the Tower-Breitung Wastewater Board, which serves over 1,000 residents between the City of Tower and Breitung Township. Klobuchar and Smith requested the funding along with U.S. Representative Pete Stauber (R-MN). The bill now goes to the Senate for final passage.

“Upgrading critical wastewater infrastructure will boost the health and safety of households in Tower and Breitung who rely on this system. With this federal funding, this project is one step closer to completion,” said Klobuchar.

“Safe wastewater management is essential to the health and safety of our communities,” said Smith. “Water infrastructure in the City of Tower and Breitung Township is at max capacity and can’t meet the needs of these growing communities. This project would expand the system's capacity and improve wastewater treatment services for over 1,000 people.”

Klobuchar and Smith have been actively involved in securing this federal funding for projects benefiting communities across the state through a process called “Congressionally Directed Spending” (CDS). During the CDS process, Klobuchar and Smith have considered project proposals and advocated for funding in close coordination with leaders from across the state.
