WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, on National Agriculture Day, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar attended the unveiling of a statue of Norman Borlaug at the U.S. Capitol. Borlaug, born in Iowa and a University of Minnesota graduate who would have turned 100 years old today, is known as “the father of the Green Revolution” for his breakthrough agriculture research that helped save as many as one billion people from hunger.

“Norman Borlaug’s innovative research helped save as many as one billion lives and continues to touch countless others all around the globe,” Klobuchar said. “The world owes a tremendous debt to Norman Borlaug, and this new statue at the U.S. Capitol – which even includes a University of Minnesota ring! – is a fitting tribute to his incredible life and legacy.”
