WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today took to the Senate floor to speak on the importance of filling the current vacancy on the Supreme Court. The passing of Justice Antonin Scalia has left a vacancy on the Supreme Court. Klobuchar took to the Senate Floor to speak on the constitutional duties of the President to nominate and the Senate to consider a new Supreme Court justice. Klobuchar is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee which has jurisdiction over Supreme Court nominees. Prior to her time in the Senate, Klobuchar served as Hennepin County Attorney.
“The Supreme Court has the constitutional responsibility to weigh some of the most important issues facing the American people,” said Klobuchar. “The President has not yet announced a nominee to fill the current vacancy on the Court. When he does, it will be the constitutional duty of each one of us to consider the nominee on his or her merits—and then choose whether to vote yes or no.”
