WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today released the following statement after the Senate voted on a 67 to 26 margin to move forward with reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank as part of the surface transportation legislation:
“The Export-Import Bank is vital to small businesses in Minnesota and across the country that rely on the Bank for expertise, loans, loan guarantees, or credit insurance so they can enter new markets all over the world. In Minnesota alone, the Bank has supported $2 billion in exports over the last five years—and that includes working with more than 170 local businesses, nearly two-thirds of which are small businesses. The Export-Import Bank has historically been reauthorized with broad bipartisan majorities, and today’s action is an important step toward continuing to give our businesses the support they need to sell their goods all over the globe.”
Klobuchar, a member of the Commerce Committee, which is one of the committees with jurisdiction over transportation, has been one of the major advocates for the Export-Import Bank and a long-term transportation bill.
