WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) announced that the House of Representatives passed legislation that included $5,000,000 in funding for a project to improve U.S. Highway 8 in Chisago County. Klobuchar and Smith requested the funding along with U.S. Representative Pete Stauber (R-MN). The bill now goes to the Senate for final passage.

“This project will make essential upgrades to Highway 8 to improve safety for drivers in Chisago County. I’ll keep working to pass the federal budget and deliver the resources needed to start the Highway 8 improvement project,” said Klobuchar.

“Infrastructure is the backbone of a strong, resilient economy,” said Smith. “US Highway 8 is a vital corridor that helps connect families and businesses across Chisago County. I’m so glad to have helped secure this funding to make US 8 safer and less congested for bikers, pedestrians and drivers.”

Klobuchar and Smith have been actively involved in securing this federal funding for projects benefiting communities across the state through a process called “Congressionally Directed Spending” (CDS). During the CDS process, Klobuchar and Smith have considered project proposals and advocated for funding in close coordination with leaders from across the state.
