WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) announced that the House of Representatives passed legislation that included $2,500,000 in funding for updates to the New Ulm Municipal Airport crosswind runway. Specifically, the project will relocate and construct a new crosswind runway at the New Ulm Municipal Airport (ULM). The crosswind runway is needed to provide the FAA required minimum wind coverage (95%) at ULM. The bill now goes to the Senate for final passage.
“New Ulm Municipal Airport needs to a new crosswind runway to improve air travel and meet FAA guidelines. With this federal grant, the airport will be able to relocate and build the new runway to continue serving travelers,” said Klobuchar.
“I’m proud to see that federal funding will directly benefit New Ulm,” said Smith. “Our small and regional airports play an essential role in our state’s economy, and they have been in desperate need of upgrades for too long. This funding will make the airport safer and more reliable for all who use it.”
Klobuchar and Smith have been actively involved in securing this federal funding for projects benefiting communities across the state through a process called “Congressionally Directed Spending” (CDS). During the CDS process, Klobuchar and Smith have considered project proposals and advocated for funding in close coordination with leaders from across the state.
