WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the statement below following the Senate’s unanimous confirmation of Eddie Frizell to serve as U.S. Marshal for the District of Minnesota.

“Eddie Frizell is a dedicated public servant who will bring nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience and three decades of Minnesota Army National Guard service to this critical position. ” said Klobuchar.

Klobuchar worked to successfully advance Frizell’s nomination through the Senate Judiciary Committee. In February, she spoke on the Senate floor to urge her colleagues to support his confirmation to this critical law enforcement position.

Frizell has served as Chief of the Metro Transit Police Department since 2019. He previously served in other law enforcement positions for 26 years, and 30 years as a member of the Minnesota Army National Guard, including two overseas deployments.

In February of 2021, Klobuchar and Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) announced the formation of a selection committee of distinguished Minnesotans to assist in making recommendations to the President for candidates to serve as U.S. Marshal for Minnesota. The Committee was chaired by John Choi, Ramsey County Attorney.

The U.S. Marshal for the District of Minnesota serves as the law enforcement arm of the federal judiciary, assisting in carrying out federal court orders and criminal investigations.
