WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) today released the following statement ahead of a meeting scheduled between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia.
“President Trump should have a strategic agenda for his meeting with Vladimir Putin. First on that list? A clear and strong message that Russia’s interference in our democracy is unacceptable. President Trump should make it clear that we will not lift sanctions until Russia stops trying to undermine democracies around the world. He should also urge Russia to pull back its illegal invasion of Ukraine and its support of Assad in Syria, while joining the United States in isolating North Korea. This is a high stakes meeting, and President Trump needs to go in with a solid plan for defending America’s interests.”
