More than 200,000 households in Minnesota rely on propane as their main source of heat
WASHINGTON, D.C. – After a push from U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar and other Minnesota lawmakers, the Administration today announced it is taking action to prioritize propane shipments on pipelines to help alleviate the ongoing shortage. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has ordered a pipeline operator to prioritize propane shipments from regions with a surplus of propane to areas like Minnesota suffering from the propane shortage. More than 200,000 households in Minnesota rely on propane as their main source of heat.
“Minnesotans have enough to worry about with this winter’s continuing low temperatures, they shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not they have the fuel needed to heat their homes,” Klobuchar said. “Today’s announcement is another step we can take to help deliver additional supplies of propane and some much-needed relief to the families and businesses that continue to feel the effects of this ongoing shortage.”
After a push from Minnesota lawmakers and Governor Dayton, the Administration also recently released additional emergency LIHEAP funds and extended the State Emergency Declaration hours-of-service exemption to March 1st in the Midwest region.
