WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar issued the following statement on reports that the Department of Justice will appoint former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special prosecutor in the Russia investigation:

"It has been clear for some time that this Administration cannot investigate itself. That's why I have been calling for a special prosecutor and an independent commission to get to the bottom of Russian interference in our election. The appointment of a special prosecutor will help restore faith in the rule of law. I worked with Bob Mueller. He has served under both Democratic and Republican Administrations, and it is my hope that he will carry out this investigation in a fair and impartial manner. This is about more than one candidate or one election, this is about the rule of law. This is about our democracy."
