WASHINGTON, DC– Today, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar announced that the Senate resolution she introduced congratulating the Minnesota Gophers Women’s Ice Hockey Team on winning the 2016 NCCA Championship has passed the Senate. The Senate resolution recognizes the hard work of the Gophers, who won their seventh women’s ice hockey championship last month, and fourth championship in the last five years. The resolution, cosponsored with Senator Al Franken, also recognizes the leadership of Head Coach Brad Frost, and the achievements of the players, coaches, staff, and fans who contributed to the championship season.

“I congratulate the Gophers Women’s Hockey Team for a hard fought season and a well-deserved championship win,” said Klobuchar. “Many of these players have won multiple individual awards and some even played on the medal-winning Olympic team in Sochi. Now these student-athletes have added yet another championship to the Gophers Women’s hockey program which has won four out of the last five NCAA Championships. They don’t call Minnesota the State of Hockey for nothing!”
