Congress Passed Funding Bills with Resources for Minnesota Projects Secured by Klobuchar, Smith

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) announced that they secured $5,000,000 in funding in the Fiscal Year 2024 federal budget for the Wabasha Resiliency Project. This grant will be used to reroute Highway 60 to improve flood mitigation. Additionally, the new route will add new public infrastructure to allow for new residential and commercial developments surrounding it.

“By rerouting and upgrading Highway 60, this project will help boost the safety of families in Wabasha and surrounding communities, especially during floods. The new route is a step forward in reducing travel times and making our infrastructure resilient,” said Klobuchar.

“I’m so glad to have secured this funding that will make Highway 60 safer, more easily navigable, and less prone to flooding,” said Smith. “Bringing money home for infrastructure improvements like this is going to make our roads and highways work better for the Minnesotans who rely on them to get where they need to go.”

Klobuchar and Smith have been actively involved in securing this federal funding for projects benefiting communities across the state through a process called “Congressionally Directed Spending” (CDS). During the CDS process, Klobuchar and Smith have considered project proposals and advocated for funding in close coordination with leaders from across the state.

Projects are expected to receive funding over the next several months.
