WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) announced that the House of Representatives passed legislation that included $1,750,000 in funding for a project to make improvements to the water treatment facility in Silver Bay. Klobuchar and Smith requested the funding and U.S. Representative Pete Stauber (R-MN) led the effort in the House. The bill now goes to the Senate for final passage.

“Upgrading the water treatment facility will help boost the health and safety of families in Silver Bay and surrounding communities. The funding I secured in the federal budget will advance this project,” said Klobuchar.

“Updating our water infrastructure may not be the most glamorous, but these systems keep our communities thriving,” said Smith. “We pride ourselves on clean drinking water and this treatment facility upgrade ensures the continued health and safety of Lake Superior and Minnesotans.”

Klobuchar and Smith have been actively involved in securing this federal funding for projects benefiting communities across the state through a process called “Congressionally Directed Spending” (CDS). During the CDS process, Klobuchar and Smith have considered project proposals and advocated for funding in close coordination with leaders from across the state.
