A bipartisan group of U.S. Senators led by Minnesota’s Amy Klobuchar is sponsoring legislation to end the Cuban trade embargo. Minnesota Farmers Union President Gary Wertish says his group backs the Freedom to Export to Cuba Act. He says the measure will be beneficial for both the United States and Cuba.

He says by ending the embargo and allowing full trade with Cuba, it would help producers suffering from low commodity prices.

Wertish says while it’s positive there’s bi partisan backing for the legislation it’s hard to predict whether it’ll pass or not.

The Freedom to Export to Cuba Act would repeal all restrictions against doing business in Cuba. The Trump administration is expected to announce its policy on Cuba in the near future.
