Senator Klobuchar is the only minority-party senator to break the overall top five list since 2002, and is only the second minority-party senator to do so since Senator John McCain

WASHINGTON- In a new study, U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) were named the most effective senators of the 115th Congress. The study is led by Vanderbilt University Professor of Political Science Alan Weisman as part of a project of the Center for Effective Lawmaking.

Vanderbilt University noted in their announcement of the study: “[Senator Klobuchar] is the only minority-party senator to break the overall top five since 2002, and is only the second minority-party senator to do so since Sen. John McCain did it in 1994.”

The Center for Effective Lawmaking outlined the findings of the report on Klobuchar: “Sen. Klobuchar put forward 69 pieces of legislation in the 115th Congress, eight of which passed the Senate and four of which became law (compared to an average of 42 bills, 2 passing the Senate, and less than one becoming law among other minority-party Senators). Her proposals ranged across numerous policy areas, finding their way to nearly every standing committee in the Senate. Her legislative accomplishments include laws designed to improve telecommunications call quality in rural areas, to fight human trafficking, and to add protections against sexual harassment to the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995.”
