Resolution honors the 576 law enforcement officers lost in the line of duty in 2021

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, joined a bipartisan group of colleagues in announcing that their resolution designating May 15 to May 21, 2022 as National Police Week has passed the Senate. The resolution recognizes the importance of law enforcement officers in ensuring the safety and security of their communities, and honors the 576 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2021.

“Law enforcement officers deserve our gratitude for putting their lives on the line every day to protect the communities they serve,” said Klobuchar. “As we work to strengthen public safety and improve our criminal justice system, I’ll keep pushing to ensure that our law enforcement officers have the resources they need to keep us safe.”

Klobuchar has long worked to provide law enforcement with the resources they need. Last month, Klobuchar held a roundtable with police chiefs and other law enforcement leaders from across Minnesota to highlight efforts to combat increases in violent carjackings. She also urged the U.S. Department of Justice to prioritize resources for state and local law enforcement to address increases in carjackings.

Through the Congressionally Directed Spending project, Klobuchar has secured federal funding this year to strengthen public safety and support law enforcement operations in communities across the state, including the Twin Cities, Rochester, Duluth and Chisholm, and St. Cloud.

Klobuchar also leads the COPS Reauthorization Act, bipartisan legislation to provide federal support for local law enforcement to hire and train new officers.
