AUSTIN, Minn. - The daycare is expected to open by late April and Senator Klobuchar visited the construction site to see how business helping the city address its childcare shortage.
Senator Klobuchar walked through the soon-to-be childcare center that will house up to 130 kids with half of its capacity being children two years and younger.
"I really looks at this as if we want to keep Minnesota moving in the right direction, in terms of economy expanding and making sure we have success not just in big cities but also in communities like Austin and Albert Lea, we've got to make sure that we've got a way to take care of kids," said Senator Klobuchar.
Hormel Foods is prioritizing employees working at the company when it comes to enrollment. Pricing for the daycare will be competitive in the Austin market.
The organization is losing money to run the facility to support families in Mower County.
"We know we will lose money every year and that's where Hormel Foods comes in and were helping to pay that operating loss every year," said Angie Bissen of Hormel Foods.
